Monitor viewing distance
Check how much of your field of view the screen occupies.

Physical panel format
Leave this on automatic to use the exact resolution ratio. The manual setting lets you calculate other physical formats.
Check the fields: a diagonal of 10–98 inches and a distance of 30–250 cm. Enter the resolution in whole pixels.
The selected physical format does not match the resolution ratio. The diagram uses the manual format.

How to interpret viewing distance
Moving closer makes the screen occupy more degrees of your field of view. Moving away reduces that angle. The ranges for each use are editorial framing references, not a universal measure of comfort.
Horizontal angle = 2 × arctan(panel width / (2 × distance))
Physical size is derived from the diagonal and format. The resolution is used to calculate PPI and pixels per degree: 55,4 on average in this configuration. This average alone does not predict text legibility.
Adjust distance and scaling to suit your desk and how you read the screen. The calculation treats the panel as flat; geometry is approximate for curved monitors.
