The monitor includes several modes, with a <strong>normal HDR mode<\/strong> that allows no adjustment, while others let you change various parameters. The others are adjustable, but factory calibration is rather weak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, in <strong>HDR Game<\/strong> the <strong>PQ EOTF<\/strong> curve is not particularly well tuned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HDR behavior also depends heavily on the selected APL mode:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>APL Low<\/strong>: fairly low brightness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>APL Middle<\/strong>: behavior similar to a <strong>True Black 400<\/strong>, and quite well tuned.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>APL High<\/strong>: allows higher brightness peaks, but with poorer fidelity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With <strong>APL High<\/strong>, in small bright windows, such as <strong>2% APL<\/strong>, it can approach <strong>1000 nits<\/strong> peak brightness. That is very good for specular highlights and isolated flashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, PQ EOTF tracking in that mode is somewhat worse than in <strong>APL Middle<\/strong>, so peaks gain punch at the cost of some overall fidelity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another interesting detail is that HDR <strong>color temperature<\/strong> is again closer to <strong>6000K<\/strong> than 6500K, similar to Adobe RGB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">White- and black-level tests show that it is not entirely bad, but neither is this one of those flawlessly calibrated HDR implementations out of the box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Which HDR mode to actually use<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To put it practically:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>APL Middle<\/strong> is the mode that provides <strong>greater fidelity<\/strong> in shadows, lighting, and overall detail.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>APL High<\/strong> is the mode for those prioritizing <strong>higher brightness peaks<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another important distinction: in <strong>APL High<\/strong>, overall screen brightness may feel slightly lower than in <strong>APL Middle<\/strong>, though that depends heavily on the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Personally, for gaming, <strong>APL Middle<\/strong>makes more sense because the screen generally looks somewhat brighter. All settings are limited at full screen; HDR Game is also not equivalent to normal HDR.<\/p><p class=\"mg-review-evidence-link wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/monitorgarage.com\/en\/monitor\/aorus-fo27q3\/#mg-fiche-5390-1galeria\">Explore all HDR settings and windows \u2192<\/a><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Response times, overshoot, and input lag<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With an OLED panel, we already know that <strong>response times<\/strong> are practically instantaneous. No surprise there. Technically, it could be better tuned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, fine measurements and actual use are different things. In actual gaming, the experience remains extremely fast and very clean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As for <strong>input lag<\/strong>, behavior is as expected. Higher refresh rates mean lower input lag; as refresh rate drops, lag rises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As with many <strong>OLED and QD-OLED monitors<\/strong>, dropping to <strong>60 Hz<\/strong> increases input lag considerably over higher refresh rates. Input lag is a separate test: it should not be confused with the time a pixel takes to change.<\/p><p class=\"mg-review-evidence-link wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/monitorgarage.com\/en\/monitor\/aorus-fo27q3\/#mg-fiche-5390-1galeria\">View response at other refresh rates and input lag tests \u2192<\/a><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">VRR, FreeSync, G-Sync Compatible, and flicker<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Variable refresh rate includes a fairly high <strong>FreeSync<\/strong> specification and, as usual in this segment, it can also be used as <strong>G-Sync Compatible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, as an OLED panel, it exhibits the familiar <strong>VRR flickering<\/strong>. This is not a fault unique to this monitor. There is room to improve <strong>factory calibration<\/strong>, <strong>gamma<\/strong> that is somewhat inconsistent across several modes, an <strong>HDR<\/strong> that depends heavily on the APL setting, and a level of <strong>overshoot<\/strong> that is technically slightly higher than ideal. But all of that needs context: in practice, it still looks <strong>very, very good<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a top competitive OLED experience at 360 Hz, it is a serious option, especially on sale.
