It is more than a wider 32″ model: the aspect ratio, resolution and subpixel layout all change.
See the changes ↗︎

These finish improvements also appear on the ASUS 32″ PG32UCDM3 and PG34WCDN ultrawide, which use BlackShield Film. These are other models that should be distinguished by their full names: the PG32UCDM3 is not the original PG32UCDM.

Finish and subpixels matter too

On the cited 32- and 34-inch models, DarkArmor Film is a surface change. The 341CQR X36’s RGB Stripe layout is a separate change aimed at reducing colored text edges. Having five emissive layers does not imply having both. A monitor’s finish or subpixel layout should not be assumed for another just because both use the word Tandem.

Text work requires considering that layout alongside pixel density, viewing distance, and scaling. A 27″ 4K and a 34″ 3440 × 1440 do not have the same pixel size. An improved subpixel layout on the ultrawide therefore does not establish that it will look sharper than every 4K monitor.

In a lit room, perceived black and reflections deserve as much attention as peak brightness. New finishes are interesting, but their practical advantages need testing under ambient light and comparable conditions. Promotional durability or deeper-black figures are not Monitor Garage’s own measurements.

What to check before choosing

For HDR, check large-window behavior and luminance-curve tracking. For desktop use, look at text and sustained brightness. For a lit room, examine the finish and reflections. The useful improvement is the one that fits your use, not the one adding the most layers to the specifications.

You can check the specification pages and compare the measurements of reviewed models.
