Actual halo intensity depends on the panel, algorithm, brightness, and viewing angle.

More zones allow more localized light, but do not guarantee good results alone. An algorithm can dim too much around an object and lose detail, or retain more brightness while raising black. Native LCD contrast and off-angle viewing also affect how visible the halo is.

A useful test includes subtitles, stars, and moving objects. A still photograph can exaggerate or hide blooming depending on exposure. OLED can have reflections, uniformity issues, or processing problems, but not blooming caused by backlight zones.

A small peak does not represent the whole movie

A sunlight reflection, an explosion, and a white page make different demands. OLED can show a very intense flash while reducing available brightness as the illuminated area grows. Mini LED can sustain more light in broad scenes, but this depends on the model and its thermal and power limits.

More area, less available intensity

White area <output data-area aria-live="off">10%</output>

2%10%25%100%

White intensityMedium

A small detail can concentrate more brightness. Test-window size alone does not describe measurement duration. A white peak also does not establish how it reproduces bright colors.

When comparing, I would examine the HDR curve, shadow and highlight detail, and changes between local dimming modes. Pixel response is usually very fast. The final experience still depends on refresh rate, signal processing, and VRR stability; the panel family does not ensure everything is well implemented.

Desktop use and many hours of static elements

Mini LED avoids the uneven wear inherent to OLED emitters and may suit long hours of static applications better. Check SDR behavior: aggressive dimming can change how windows, text, and backgrounds look. The same setting used for an HDR game is not always desirable.

Bright room

Brightness helps, but the finish and light placement matter as much as the nit figure. A window reflected in front of you can be more bothersome than a moderate brightness difference. On some QD-OLEDs, ambient light also raises or tints black. Check the specific model’s coating.

If you switch between gaming and work, I would choose based on the compromise you will notice most often. No universal split of hours automatically makes one technology correct. The guides to screen finishes and OLED behavior help narrow it down.

IMartz’s video comparison

▶Watch IMartz's explanation
Open the video on YouTube ↗︎

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow" id="mg-mvo-db">
From technology to model

Check the monitor’s measurements and modes.
