ASUS includes a <strong>calibrated sRGB mode<\/strong>, as is common for the brand, but on this unit it performs worse than the manual sRGB clamp.\n\nThe reason is simple: the clamp is extremely aggressive. We are talking about <strong>83,3%<\/strong>, which is too low. This means the panel cannot even properly reach the gamut&#8217;s own primary coordinates, and it shows in colors such as red and blue.\n\nGrayscale Delta E also worsens, and gamma has a rather strange spike. ASUS usually does the opposite: its calibrated sRGB mode is better than manually clamping the gamut. Distinguish this coverage limitation from the color error measured within each mode.<\/p><p class=\"mg-review-evidence-link wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/monitorgarage.com\/en\/monitor\/asus-rog-xg27aqdgmr\/#mg-fiche-5046-1galeria\">Compare SDR mode tests \u2192<\/a><\/p><\/div><\/div><h2 id=\"calibracion-manual-margen-de-mejora-si-que-hay\">Manual calibration: there is room for improvement<\/h2>\nIf gaming is the main use, the recommendation is simple: keep the default modes with <strong>wide gamut<\/strong> and change color temperature from <strong>6500K to User<\/strong>. That alone produces a small improvement.\n\nOn the reviewed unit, lowering the green channel one step in the User color temperature setting and applying an ICC profile generated with a colorimeter improves results further. However, the usual reminder applies: <strong>two identical monitors do not behave exactly the same<\/strong>, so copying someone else&#8217;s settings does not guarantee the same fine tuning.\n\nAnother important point: <strong>ICC profiles make more sense for multimedia or color work than for gaming<\/strong>.\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" style=\"object-fit: cover; ; max-width: 100%; height: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/monitorgarage.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/monitor-asus-rog-xg27aqdmgr-oled-escena-juego.jpg\" alt=\"ASUS ROG XG27AQDMGR OLED monitor on a desk displaying a game scene\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<h2 id=\"brillo-en-sdr-y-ajuste-de-uniformidad\">SDR brightness and uniformity setting<\/h2>\nAs with any OLED, brightness varies because of <strong>ABL<\/strong>. ASUS includes a <strong>brightness uniformity<\/strong> option that is quite useful.\n\nWhen enabled, the monitor delivers around <strong>260-270 nits<\/strong> fairly consistently, which is normal for this panel type. As APL increases, brightness falls, as is typical of OLED. PQ EOTF and luminance calibration is reasonably good up to about <strong>25% APL<\/strong>, but begins to go off balance beyond that.\n\nThe mode <strong>True Black 400<\/strong> has less brightness, but calibration is much more consistent across the whole window range. It is far from perfect, but it is more stable up to 100% APL.\n\n\n\n\n<h3>Brightness Boost and unlocking HDR settings<\/h3>\nASUS adds two interesting extra HDR options.\n\nThe first is <strong>Brightness Boost<\/strong>, which in practice works similarly to MSI&#8217;s EOTF Boost: it shifts the luminance curve to <strong>lift shadows<\/strong>. It is less accurate, yes, but can help in very dark games where details are hard to make out.\n\nIt also helps counter the typical dimming that occurs in some scenes.\n\n\n\nThe second option is <strong>unlocking HDR settings<\/strong>, which lets you increase brightness from 90 to 100. Doing this makes the three main HDR modes behave like the typical peak brightness mode on many OLEDs.\n\n\n\nThe panel then reaches around <strong>1130 nits in a 2% window<\/strong>, a completely normal figure for this technology. The problem is that calibration worsens. In fact, the monitor itself warns you.\n\n\n\nCombining this with Brightness Boost throws calibration off considerably, although you get much more lifted shadows while retaining those brightness peaks. TrueBlack 400 stays closer to the reference, though it is not perfect either. The comparison keeps the illuminated area at 10% so the mode change is easy to interpret.<\/p><p class=\"mg-review-evidence-link wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/monitorgarage.com\/en\/monitor\/asus-rog-xg27aqdgmr\/#mg-fiche-5046-1galeria\">View unlocked brightness, Boost, and all HDR windows \u2192<\/a><\/p><\/div><\/div><h2 id=\"la-gran-pega-del-hdr-pierde-algo-de-color\">HDR&#8217;s main drawback: some color is lost<\/h2>\nThis is one of the monitor&#8217;s weaker points in its current state. HDR has <strong>some loss of saturation and color coverage<\/strong>.\n\nIn <strong>True Black 400<\/strong> the situation is not dramatic. In UHDA-P3, very close to DCI-P3, it stays <strong>below 95%<\/strong>, so the drop exists, but is not huge. In BT.2020 it falls from <strong>70%<\/strong>, which is within expectations.\n\nIt is most noticeable in the <strong>Gaming HDR modes<\/strong>, where coverage drops to approximately <strong>92%<\/strong>. That does result in an image that is somewhat less vivid and saturated.\n\nThis also affects color accuracy and color volume. It is not a catastrophe, but it is visible compared with other monitors that get more from this same panel.\n\nThe good news is that this behavior <strong>can be corrected through firmware<\/strong>. It has happened with other models before, and some brands have fixed it. In terms of the experience, there is no ghosting as such.\n\nHowever, if you are very particular and used to examining these tests closely, you can notice <strong>some overshoot<\/strong>. This particular monitor has a little more than other models using exactly the same panel.\n\nThis also complicates measurements. Some transitions come in near 4 ms in strict tables, not because the monitor is slow, but because of how overshoot, panel flickering, and a very demanding tolerance methodology interact in measurement. Relaxing the test criterion returns behavior to the expected range.\n\nTo summarize: <strong>real-world performance is typical of a third-generation MLA WOLED at 240 Hz<\/strong>. Even so, the result is interesting because it provides <strong>motion clarity very similar to 240 Hz<\/strong> using only 120 fps.\n\nIf your system cannot sustain 240 fps, this feature makes sense for gaining motion sharpness. ASUS includes <strong>two presets<\/strong> to mitigate it.\n\nThey work partially. In some situations they help and flickering decreases. In others, flickering may even seem worse than with them disabled. The first is <strong>banding<\/strong>, those broken-up or uneven grays that sometimes appear on a new panel. There is also the familiar <strong>grid or dirty-screen effect<\/strong>.\n\nOn the reviewed unit, banding was quite pronounced out of the box, but improved substantially after pixel cleaning. This is worth stressing, because there is a lot of alarm around this issue, and panels are often judged before even completing one cleaning cycle.\n\nThe <strong>the grid effect cannot be eliminated<\/strong>, because it is a technological limitation. Banding, however, usually improves with use and one or two cleaning cycles. This panel uses the older subpixel layout, not the one found on Tandem OLEDs or 32-inch 4K WOLEDs, which means you may see <strong>fringing<\/strong>.\n\nASUS includes an option intended to improve text, but honestly, it does not work very well. That LG can sometimes be found for <strong>around 430 euros<\/strong>, although it depends heavily on deals and timing.\n\nAs often happens, their prices are close enough that the decision depends more on each model&#8217;s approach than on raw specifications.\n\n\n<h3>Where the LG wins<\/h3>\n<ul>\n \t<li><strong>No color loss in HDR<\/strong>, so it offers better coverage in that mode<\/li>\n \t<li><strong>sRGB mode with a more generous clamp<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Supports hardware calibration<\/strong>, a niche but valuable feature for some users<\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Better overshoot control<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Where the ASUS wins<\/h3>\n<ul>\n \t<li><strong>More extra features<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>ELMB<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>OLED Anti-Flickering<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Presence sensor<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>A more appealing stand<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>ALLM compatibility on PS5<\/strong>, something the LG OLEDs tested here did not offer<\/li>\n \t<li><strong>More comprehensive burn-in protection<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\nWithout that HDR color loss, the ASUS would probably be the more complete monitor of the two. But since it currently has that issue, the balance is much more even.\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"entonces-merece-la-pena\">So, is it worth it?<\/h2>\nIn its current state, the <strong>ASUS ROG XG27AQDMGR<\/strong> seems to me a <strong>good monitor<\/strong>. I certainly do not consider it a failed product. It has things to improve, especially HDR and that calibrated sRGB mode that clearly needs firmware work, but I do not think it has any absolutely disastrous flaw.\n\nIts best points are clear:\n<ul>\n \t<li><strong>Very fast 1440p 240 Hz OLED panel<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Pure glossy finish, cleaner and clearer<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Very good PS5 compatibility<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Very comprehensive stand and ergonomics<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Lots of useful extras<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Good burn-in protection options<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\nAnd the weaker points are clear too:\n<ul>\n \t<li><strong>Color loss in HDR<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Weak calibrated sRGB mode<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>No USB-C<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Text could improve due to the subpixel layout<\/strong><\/li>\n \t<li><strong>Pronounced reflections from the glossy finish<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\nIt makes a lot of sense if you want a <strong>27-inch 1440p 240 Hz gaming OLED<\/strong> with plenty of features and like a glossy finish. If you prioritize <strong>more well-rounded HDR right now<\/strong>, the LG rival may be a step ahead. If ASUS fixes HDR through firmware, the situation could change substantially.\n\nThat would not be unusual, because these OLED monitors often have room for improvement through updates. ASUS has shown before that it can add or refine important features through firmware.
