That has a clear advantage: reflections are heavily diffused. It helps if your room has challenging lighting.

The issue is the usual one with stronger matte coatings: they scatter colors a little more and create a slight sense of blur compared with lighter coatings. If you prefer a cleaner, clearer image, you would probably like a lighter matte finish more.

It is not a disaster, but it is an important panel characteristic to keep in mind.

There is little mystery here. The various picture presets do not add much, so it is best to leave it in User mode. That is the most sensible place to make adjustments.

Among the more serious modes, there are two approaches:

Native gamut

sRGB mode

In native gamut, the default grayscale performance shows a slightly cool color temperature. Fortunately, this is easily corrected by changing the temperature from the Standard preset to Warm.

With that adjustment:

It gets closer to 6500K

Grayscale accuracy improves

The sRGB curve is followed reasonably well

Measured maximum brightness is around 422 nits with one colorimeter, and around 435 nits with the one normally used for comparisons. Those are not outrageous figures, but they are good. More interestingly, contrast is quite high for an IPS, which gives the image more depth than many competitors.

Color is where this monitor really delivers.

DCI-P3: around 97% coverage, with very good accuracy

Adobe RGB: close to 95%, which is really very good

sRGB: full coverage and around 126% gamut volume

However, that extra sRGB volume means the usual: oversaturation when using the panel’s native gamut for sRGB content. It is not an unusual fault, just typical wide-gamut monitor behavior. That is what sRGB mode is for.

The sRGB mode is implemented quite well. The gamut clamp is practically perfect and color accuracy is very good. The only area needing improvement is grayscale, which is slightly affected by a still somewhat cool temperature, even with Warm selected.

The good news is that this mode does allow color temperature adjustment. Switching to User and lowering the blue channel a little—about three points in this case—improves the results further, even without applying an ICC profile.

That is not always available on budget monitors. Often, sRGB mode is locked and allows no adjustments, so there is real room to fine-tune the image here.

Coverage · sRGB mode

Grayscale · sRGB mode

The sRGB clamp is well implemented and retains almost all of the target gamut. Even so, the key point is that it already provides a very good foundation out of the box.

That said, remember something important: ICC profiles make more sense for editing or media consumption than for pure gaming.

HDR, uniformity, and unit condition

The monitor includes HDR support with a single mode. It is still fairly basic HDR 400, so do not expect miracles. A truly impressive HDR experience requires more brightness and more contrast.

Even so, within its limitations, it is much better tuned than other similarly priced monitors. Setting color temperature to Warm produces good results for both the luminance curve and the PQ EOTF.

The main limitation is lost detail at the beginning of the curve due to insufficient contrast. Brightness also does not increase over SDR, even when switching temperature to User.

Color performance, however, is strong again:

Around 73% of BT.2020

About 97% of UHDA-P3

Good color volume with no losses compared with SDR

Quick conclusion: the HDR on the KTC H27T27 is a bonus, not a reason to buy the monitor. It works, does its job, and is better tuned than usual, but remains far from true HDR.

Here we reach one of the monitor’s less impressive areas. There is visible backlight bleed, especially on the left. It is not particularly unusual for IPS, but it is there and should be stated clearly.

Brightness and color uniformity are not bad, but neither is especially impressive. They are acceptable, with room for improvement. Curiously, at 50% brightness, color uniformity improves while brightness uniformity gets worse.

Here comes the important caveat. The review unit had a stuck pixel. And this is not the first time it has happened with a monitor from this brand. That does not justify a definitive judgment on KTC, since a much larger sample would be needed for a rigorous assessment, but it does leave a clear impression: KTC seems to have somewhat weaker quality control than other brands.

It is also worth remembering that people who have had a problem are more likely to post online than those delighted with their purchase. Even so, with this monitor, the sensible approach is to inspect your unit carefully as soon as it arrives and check that everything is right before deciding to keep it.

Stuck pixel observed on the review unit

200 or 210 Hz: response, MPRT, and VRR

This is one of the monitor’s key points. Its base refresh rate is 200 Hz, but overclocking takes it to 210 Hz. Best of all, enabling it does not seem to involve any significant tradeoff.

The color configuration remains at 10 bits and, unless something fails in a particular setup, leaving it enabled makes sense. If you would rather play it safe, 200 Hz is perfectly fine too, since the difference is small.

The monitor offers several overdrive modes. In practice, the most advisable is Advance.

Why? Because Standard starts with somewhat high gray-to-gray times. Advance does introduce some overshoot, but it is minimal, while initial response times drop to around 5.48 ms.

Dynamic OD is fairly similar to Standard and is not bad, but if you have to choose one, the recommendation remains clear: Advanced.

There is an interesting detail. At 200 Hz with Advance, gray-to-gray times drop a little further, but overshoot also increases somewhat. In practice, the difference is virtually imperceptible. In fact, the extra 10 Hz will probably be more noticeable, though honestly, even those are hard to distinguish clearly.

Response · Standard · 210 Hz

Response · Advanced · 210 Hz

Advanced improves initial response over Standard at 210 Hz while keeping overshoot low in this test. In Nvidia testing, it performed well with no noticeable problems, even though it is not officially Nvidia certified.

Flicker is minimal or practically imperceptible, which is exactly what you want in this type of monitor.

MPRT comparison with different overdrive modes

PS5 and speakers

On PlayStation 5, the monitor has limitations. It does not support VRR or ALLM. Keep that in mind if you are mainly looking for a console display.

What it does allow is setting it to 4K 60 Hz through supersampling, which some 1440p monitors accept and which can be useful in certain situations.

When running at 120 Hz on a console, the best choice is to set overdrive to Standard, because Advance would produce too much overshoot. And when running at 60 Hz, the ideal choice is simply to disable overdrive.

As an interesting extra, the monitor has built-in speakers. They are not good: they sound weak and offer very limited quality, but they can get you by in a pinch.

They are not a reason to buy it, but having them does no harm either.

Differences from the H27T7 and conclusion

The most logical comparison is within KTC’s own lineup. The previously reviewed H27T7 costs around 10 euros less and also leaves a very good impression. But if the actual difference is around those 10 euros, the balance tips slightly in favor of the KTC H27T6.

The main reasons are:

A better stand, clearly superior in quality

Similar colors, but higher Adobe RGB coverage, around 95%

Slightly lower brightness than the other model, which could reach around 500 nits

Better contrast on this model

Very good calibration on both, with fairly similar results

Better response times on this one, partly thanks to the higher refresh rate and slightly better-tuned overdrive

Built-in speakers, even if they are weak

Overall, this one comes out ahead for that small extra cost.

Looking solely at the relationship between price and features, the KTC H27T6 ranks among the most interesting monitors currently available for under 200 euros. It has an excellent foundation, good construction, a very capable image, seriously strong color for the price range, convincing gaming performance, and features rarely found at this price.

The only real reason to think twice is neither the panel, HDR, nor overdrive. It is quality control. If you buy the KTC H27T6, inspect your unit carefully when it arrives. If you get a good one, it is hard not to recommend it highly.

Overall, yes: this monitor takes the crown in its price range. And if your maximum budget is below 200 euros, it is entirely reasonable to say the KTC H27T6 is among the best purchases you can make right now.

The KTC H27T6 combines a 1440p IPS panel running at up to 210 Hz with an adjustable stand and a wide color gamut.
