Panel speed and definition are strengths. Factory color tuning and, above all, the loss of gamut with HDR enabled are the most important compromises.

Good SDR coverage measurements alone do not describe what happens with HDR content. That difference changes this monitor’s standing against other OLEDs and deserves more attention than the connection list or peak brightness.

Packaging, assembly, and connections

The package is well supplied with accessories and cables. This is not one of those bare-bones monitors that forces you to search the house for a usable cable. In that respect, it does well from the start.

The stand left mixed impressions. On one hand, the base is metal, heavy, and sturdy, always reassuring. On the other, its somewhat irregular shape does not quite appeal to me aesthetically.

The central section is plastic-covered but does not feel fragile. The odd part is the monitor attachment: instead of the usual quick-release system, it uses two screws. It is not dramatic, but less convenient than usual, and assembly was more tedious than expected.

For ergonomics, the AOC AGON AG326UD does very well. It adjusts in practically every way and has substantial height range. It even supports portrait orientation, which does not seem especially necessary on a 32-inch monitor, but having the option is always better than not.

For connectivity, the highlights are USB hub and HDMI 2.1, very important if you also want console use or high-refresh 4K without limitations.

The back has an asymmetric design with menu-configurable RGB. It also includes an OSD joystick. I have mixed feelings here: a joystick is vastly better than conventional buttons, but this one’s press feels somewhat imprecise.

There is also a small rear area for resting headphones. I do not consider it decisive, but it is a useful, welcome addition.

Cables included with the AOC AG326UD

Stand attachment using screws

Glossy finish and viewing environment

The panel on the AOC AGON AG326UD has a glossyfinish, like many QD-OLEDs. That brings benefits and drawbacks. The benefit is that colors stand out more and the image has appealing visual punch. The downside is that reflections are quite noticeable.

Room lighting matters considerably here, not only because of reflections, but because direct light on this type of QD-OLED can produce a somewhat magenta tint that undermines the impression of deep black.

Also remember that these panels are delicate and scratch relatively easily. Avoid touching the screen with your fingers.

An important note for desktop or productivity use: OLEDs usually have poorer text sharpness than an equivalent IPS at the same pixel density. That is real.

However, on a 32-inch 4K like this, I do not consider it a serious problem. That drawback is much more noticeable on 1440p models. Text looks perfectly good here. It still trails a good IPS in pure definition, yes, but is better than WOLED and easily good enough for comfortable use.

Reflections and ambient light on the AG326UD

AOC AG326UD text detail

SDR color: wide coverage and grayscale needing refinement

The menu has several gaming modes, but honestly I recommend leaving them off. Gamut modes and color-temperature settings deserve more attention.

The monitor includes modes such as DCI-P3 or sRGB, but enabling them locks certain parameters. For example, gamma and color temperature can no longer be changed, although brightness remains adjustable.

For native-mode color coverage, the AOC AGON AG326UD does very well. My measurements are around 99.7% DCI-P3 and almost 97% Adobe RGB, entirely consistent with other QD-OLEDs I have tested.

So far, so good. The issue is less coverage than factory color accuracy, especially in whites and grays. Against DCI-P3 or Adobe RGB, balance is not as refined as it should be on a monitor at this level.

Grayscale performance produces a higher delta E than I would like. That makes the experience less well-rounded if you want a monitor particularly well tuned for color work without adjustments.

The positive is that Warm color temperature stays close to 6500K, exactly where it should be. Gamma, set to value 1, tracks the sRGB curve reasonably well, something OLED does not always handle this cleanly.

Interestingly, User mode without adjustments can deliver better grayscale accuracy, but color temperature becomes considerably warmer, approaching 6000K. In other words, the image looks slightly redder.

Gamma also falls a little too much in that scenario, so I would not call it a perfect solution as supplied.

When you enable DCI-P3mode, the gamut clamp is not particularly aggressive, staying around 96,7%. The issue remains the same: accuracy does not really improve over native mode.

Whites and grays remain fairly inaccurate, and gamma seems to target something closer to 2.4. That could make some sense within pure DCI-P3, but the white point fits neither original DCI-P3 nor a properly implemented D65 reference. In short, this mode needs attention.

In sRGB the gamut clamp is around 95%. Color accuracy improves somewhat here, but the issue with higher grays remains. Again, the pattern repeats: reasonable color, but whites and grayscale errors above the desired level.

Interestingly, this does not seem to be a panel limitation. Manual calibration targeting DCI-P3 considerably improves white balance, allowing a much more refined result.

Custom color-temperature settings and a properly made ICC profile can improve grayscale balance and color accuracy. Naturally, every unit differs, so do not expect to clone someone else’s calibration exactly, but you can get closer and substantially refine behavior.

That ICC profile makes much more sense for color work and content reproduction than gaming. But even without using an ICC profile, I would recommend custom color-temperature adjustments because the change is worthwhile.

AOC AG326UD color options

SDR brightness stability

SDR brightness depends on the mode. Warm falls somewhat behind other QD-OLEDs I have tested, while User mode brings numbers closer to its higher-end siblings, although still slightly below.

In native mode, also bear in mind that the panel greatly oversaturates sRGB, so it is not ideal for standard content if you want accuracy without profiling.

SDR brightness changes little with illuminated area, and I found no option to unlock that behavior. This is useful for stable brightness while working. Stability across window sizes should not be confused with spatial panel uniformity, which compares screen areas.

DisplayHDR versus Peak mode

HDR is precisely where the AOC AGON AG326UD gets complicated. Several modes are available, but the only truly useful ones are DisplayHDR and Peak.

The other modes have unconvincing calibration, particularly in PQ EOTF and luminance. The curve rises too early, causing loss of detail in dark scenes. They also add artificial sharpening that I really dislike.

DisplayHDR works similarly to a True Black 400 mode up to 10% APL. It delivers around 425 to 430 nits there, which is not bad within OLED expectations.

Calibration holds up quite well to approximately 25% APL. Beyond that, it begins to break down, quite common on this type of monitor.

DisplayHDR · 10% APL

HDR Peak · 10% APL

DisplayHDR closely follows the reference with small windows. HDR Peak raises highlight brightness, but darkens midtones and highlights as illuminated area grows. Both behaviors should be considered alongside the color clamp discussed below.

View all tests in the gallery →

Peak mode extracts more localized brightness, but also falls short of higher models here. Peak brightness is around 900-something nits, less than its 240 Hz siblings.

Beyond 10% APL, this mode also begins visibly losing accuracy. Although it can produce more striking highlights in small areas, in actual use the screen generally feels darker than in DisplayHDR.

So, practically speaking, I prefer DisplayHDR for most uses. Peak is useful for those prioritizing more aggressive highlights, but the overall result seems less balanced to me.

The behavior of ABL is also more aggressive in that mode, logically so because brightness differences between APL levels are greater.

HDR gamut reduction is a significant limitation

Here is the real Achilles’ heel of the AOC AGON AG326UD. Honestly, it is an unpleasant surprise because it is not normal for this type of OLED.

In HDR, I measured a clear loss of color coverage. In a space close to DCI-P3, the monitor reaches around 90%, compared with around 99% in SDR. Looking at BT.2020, it falls below 70%, while SDR is closer to 80%.

That is neither a small difference nor a laboratory obsession. It is a real HDR reduction and, for me, the monitor’s biggest technical flaw.

I looked for references and found few technical reviews of this exact model going into HDR at this depth. But something similar appears on another QD-OLED from the brand, specifically a 27-inch 1440p model also reviewed by PC Monitors.

One solution discussed in some cases is slightly increasing digital vibrance in Nvidia’s control panel. It may give the impression of more saturation, but in my tests it does not actually correct gamut loss. It is more cosmetic than a solution.

Note that this occurs in both DisplayHDR and Peak, as well as the other HDR modes. A future firmware update or correction method would substantially change the product assessment. HDR reduction is a significant limitation of this unit: good advertised or measured SDR coverage does not justify assuming the same result with HDR enabled.

View all tests in the gallery →

165 Hz, response, and PS5 compatibility

There is little mystery in response times: it is OLED, so gray-to-gray is virtually instant. That means no ghosting as such.

However, being OLED does not make refresh rate irrelevant. Compared with a higher-refresh OLED, you will notice more motion blur simply because this is 165 Hz rather than 240 Hz or more.

There is no particularly noteworthy black-frame insertion mode or anything similar to change the picture.

For input lag, the AOC AGON AG326UD delivers good numbers at 165 Hz and 120 Hz. It also includes a low input lag mode available whenever Adaptive Sync is not in use.

The most favorable measurements come with that mode enabled. The issue returns when dropping to 60 Hz, where I saw a fairly large input-lag increase.

This looks much like a familiar problem on some OLEDs that have been on the market a while. Newer ones tend to address it better, but it still shows in the numbers here.

There was some controversy over the smaller 1440p model, with claims of frame skipping that were later disproven. In the case of the AOC AGON AG326UD, after testing, I found no frame skipping.

It also supports Adaptive Sync, so it works with FreeSync or G-Sync Compatible. I tested it with an Nvidia graphics card.

It lacks official G-Sync Compatible certification, but VRR behavior seemed reasonably good for an OLED. The familiar flickering that sometimes appears on OLED with these technologies is present, but seemed less distracting here than on other models.

With PlayStation 5, the AOC AGON AG326UD it offers full compatibility thanks to HDMI 2.1. That means:

4K at 120 Hz

VRR

ALLM

HDR

The menu also includes productivity features such as PBP and PIP, useful for switching multiple sources or using the monitor more flexibly.

For sound, it has two 8 W speakers. They are not bad for built-ins, but do not expect much. Bass is clearly lacking. They suffice in a pinch and little more.

HDMI, HDR, and VRR information during console testing

Buying assessment

Pricing is usually quite affordable for a 4K QD OLED monitor without cutbacks; it has even been seen below 650 euros.

The AOC AGON AG326UD is a visually appealing monitor with clear strengths:

4K QD-OLED at 32 inches for a relatively low price in the segment

Deep blacks and OLED contrast

Very good pixel density

Instant response time

HDMI 2.1 and very good PS5 compatibility

Good input lag at 120 and 165 Hz

Little flickering compared with typical OLED VRR behavior

But it also has important limitations:

Loss of color gamut in HDR, its most serious flaw in my view

Lower HDR brightness than its higher-end 240 Hz siblings

Factory calibration could be better, particularly in whites and grays

More motion blur than higher-refresh OLEDs

Much worse input lag at 60 Hz

Even with all that, fairness matters: it does not look bad, far from it. It is still a 4K OLED whose image quality in normal use will look spectacular to many people. Show it to anyone and they will still be amazed by the blacks, contrast, and how good content looks.

The issue is that close analysis reveals clear cutbacks, including one that is hard to overlook: HDR color loss. If firmware fixed that, the AOC AGON AG326UD would be considerably easier to recommend in its range.

As it stands, it seems interesting if you prioritize entering 4K QD-OLED for less than other models and accept its compromises.
